Covering the costs of structural damage
Our optional buildings insurance covers loss or damage that may occur to the roof, walls, ceilings, floors, doors, and windows of the building. The insurance can also cover the full cost of rebuilding the property.
Damage attributed to a range of natural, accidental, and civil incidents are covered, including:
- fire, explosion, storms, flooding, and earthquakes
- theft, attempted theft, malicious damage, or vandalism
- freezing or bursting of any part of the plumbing system
- falling trees, lampposts, aerials, or satellite dishes
- subsidence
This is not a complete list. Full details are available on request.
In some instances, our insurance will also cover additional costs associated with the damage, e.g. replacing fire extinguishers or sprinkler heads in the event of a fire; sourcing modern materials to replace older building materials that are no longer used; or removing damage debris.
The validity of a claim will be dependent on your compliance with specific precautions and safety practices, such as routine electrical wiring inspections and fire alarm testing.
If you are concerned about the potential for loss of revenue due to your business having to vacate a damaged premises, you will need to consider separate business interruption insurance.
