Protection against employee claims

Our employee liability cover is an optional insurance which protects your business against claims up to £10 million. It covers the claimants’ necessary and reasonable costs and expenses, and your defence costs and expenses.

The policy will also pay £250 per day for any director or partner to attend court, and £150 per day for an employee to attend.

It also covers you if someone brings a claim against a customer for whom you are providing services (provided certain conditions are met) and any private work carried out by your employees for any director or partner of yours.

As with other types of insurance, there are certain exclusions. Our insurance will not cover injury to an employee where:

• there should have been motor insurance
• the injury is caused by a deliberate or reckless act, on your part
• the injury was suffered while offshore.

Employers’ liability insurance is not the same as public liability. You will need separate cover to protect against claims made by third parties for injury or damage.
